Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. will visit Japan from December 15 to 18. A bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and President Marcos will be held on December 16. The main reason for President Marcos’ 11th international trip this year is to attend the 50th ASEAN-Japan Anniversary on Sunday, December 17.  The following are important factors for the 10 ASEAN countries to discuss with the host country Japan:

  • numerous international developments which involve the regional bloc, such as issues on South China Sea, East China Sea, North Korea, and Myanmar

  • people-to-people activities related to arts, culture, and sports

  • ASEAN-Japan economic ties, particularly on trade and investment, supply chain, connectivity and infrastructure, climate change; and food and energy security.

Another important meeting is the Asia Zero Emissions Community (AZEC) on Monday, December 18.  According to President Ferdinand Marcos, “This is important for us because as one of the countries most vulnerable to climate change, we are committed to the outcome of the COP28 meeting and this will also be an opportunity for us to request support for our bid to host the board of the loss and damage fund.”

The Filipino Community in Japan hopes to have a Meet & Greet with President Marcos, fondly called PBBM.
