Boxing spectator to sportscaster: Unexpected Transformation Now

Inoue versus Ancajas
Inoue versus Ancajas

Growing up with a family who loves sports, particularly boxing, I was more of a silent spectator of the players and siblings plus parents who have their own favorite teams and boxers.  I can still remember watching the boxing matches between Muhammad Ali versus Joe Frazer and almost all the boxing matches of  Manny Pacquiao.  Fast forward to the Tokyo Olympics 2020,  I started broadcasting different sports and even personally meeting the Filipino Olympian boxers in the Olympic Village as I worked in the  Media Center.  Great to prepare press conferences for international Olympians and even chatting with them.  Highlights included meeting & talking to our first Filipino Olympian gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz, silver boxer medalist Nesthy Petecio, bronze boxer Eumir Marcial, and more local & international Olympians!

Last Saturday,  after working from 8 AM through 8 PM,  I was asked to broadcast again on the most-awaited WBA Bantamweight Match 2024 between Takuma Inoue and Jerwin Ancajas.  After cycling for about 5 minutes from my school to my broadcast studio/office,  I turned on my computer to get some boxing updates.

My computer crashed and rebooted!  Bombo Radyo Dagupan was already waiting for me on the other line, but I could not just use my iPhone to broadcast an exciting boxing match of the new year.  I also need the data I earlier gathered in between my 12-hour classes.

Well, after more than  2 years of broadcasting sports and other events in Japan, it’s my first time facing technical issues minutes before going on air.
